Varonis Systems, a leader in data-centric cybersecurity, has acquired SlashNext, a firm specializing in AI-driven email and messaging security, in a deal worth up to $150 million, which includes performance-based retention awards. This latest transaction is a central element of Varonis’ longer-term strategy to build an AI-first, unified data security platform, executing on its promise to catch threats early and protect across the entire attack surface.

SlashNext, which was established in 2014, provides an advanced, AI-powered protection against phishing and social engineering across email, browsers, and collaboration apps (Teams, Slack, WhatsApp, Zoom). It utilizes session emulation, virtual browsing, computer vision, and NLP to detect sophisticated attack patterns that evade traditional defenses. SlashNext is known for its high detection accuracy, even against sophisticated, AI-generated attacks that traditional security measures might miss. In fact, in a recent independent testing conducted by The Tolly Group, SlashNext reportedly hit 99% overall detection accuracy and 100% detection of BEC and QR-code-based attacks, outperforming industry rivals such as Abnormal Security and Mimecast.
