Founding Database Universe
The Startup Database begins with a 50-company founding dataset focused on high-impact private technology companies across frontier AI, AI infrastructure, enterprise software, cloud computing, cybersecurity, accelerated computing, robotics, defense technology, fintech, data platforms, and developer infrastructure.
Initial profiles include: OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, Mistral AI, Perplexity, Hugging Face, Together AI, CoreWeave, Scale AI, Glean, Sierra, Harvey, Wiz, Groq, Cerebras, Figure AI, Physical Intelligence, Anduril, Stripe, and Databricks.
Database Rule: The Startup Database is not a static list. When a company raises a new round, announces a strategic partnership, changes leadership, launches a major product, or reaches a new valuation milestone, the profile is updated while historical records remain preserved.
Status Definitions
Private: Independent company with private ownership, including companies with a large strategic minority holder.
Restructured: Operating company whose control, technology, or leadership moved through a strategic deal without a full acquisition.
Acquired: Company absorbed by another through a completed or announced acquisition.
Public: Company with shares listed on a public exchange.
Verification Labels
Confirmed: Supported by official company materials, investor disclosures, regulatory filings, or other primary evidence.
Corroborated: Supported by multiple independent, credible sources.
Reported: Credibly reported but not directly confirmed in public disclosures.
Estimated: Informative but not independently verified; never treated as a confirmed company fact.
Critical Database Rule: Historical funding information is never overwritten. A new financing event updates the latest-round data, valuation, investor relationships, intelligence signals, and Recently Funded placement while keeping prior rounds intact.
Source Rule: Third-party tracker figures that conflicted with primary announcements or credible news reporting were not used as record values.
What Comes Next
The remaining 30 founding records will be added using the same format. Planned modules include recently funded, highest-funded, and highest-valued views, plus sector, technology, stage, and geography directories.
The CODEW Lens: A profile is the historical record. A funding watch is the event. A Spotlight is the analysis.
