Salesforce buys AI Customer Service Platform Fin for $3.6 Billion to Boost Agentic AI Offerings

Salesforce has announced plans to acquire AI-powered customer service platform Fin for approximately $3.6 billion, marking one of the company's largest investments in agentic artificial intelligence as competition intensifies across the enterprise AI market. The deal, first announced on June 15, 2026, represents a significant expansion of Salesforce's autonomous AI capabilities and reinforces its commitment to becoming a leader in enterprise AI agents.

Founded in 2011 and headquartered in San Francisco, Fin—formerly known as Intercom—spent years developing its proprietary Apex AI model, specifically designed for customer support applications. The company recently rebranded to reflect its strategic focus on AI-driven service automation, evolving from a customer messaging platform into a specialized provider of AI-powered customer service agents.

Today, Fin serves thousands of businesses worldwide through its AI agent platform, which can independently resolve approximately 76% of customer inquiries across multiple communication channels, including chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, and Slack. This high level of automation has positioned Fin as one of the leading providers in the rapidly growing AI customer service market.

For Salesforce, the acquisition represents a strategic move to strengthen its Agentforce platform. While Agentforce is designed to address complex, highly customized enterprise requirements, Fin offers packaged, fast-to-deploy AI solutions that enable organizations of all sizes to adopt AI-driven customer service more quickly. Industry analysts view the transaction as an important step in accelerating Salesforce's transition toward autonomous AI agents while broadening the reach and accessibility of Fin's technology.

The acquisition is expected to add more than 30,000 business customers to Salesforce's ecosystem while bringing in a highly skilled engineering team with deep expertise in customer service automation. Fin's turnkey offerings are expected to complement Agentforce, Salesforce's customizable enterprise AI platform, which generated $1.2 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR) during the first quarter of fiscal 2027, representing 205% year-over-year growth.

As enterprise software increasingly shifts toward autonomous AI agents, the acquisition further strengthens Salesforce's position in the customer experience market. The combined capabilities of Fin and Agentforce could help establish Salesforce Agentforce Contact Center as a dominant platform in the evolving AI-powered customer service landscape.

The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close during Salesforce's fiscal fourth quarter. Salesforce stated that the acquisition will not affect its current financial guidance or its ongoing share repurchase program, underscoring the company's confidence in both its financial position and long-term AI strategy.
