Autonomous Safety Evolution: FORT Robotics Buys Mapless AI for Teleoperation Tech

FORT Robotics has acquired Mapless AI, a U.S.-based developer of teleoperation and autonomy supervision technology, marking a significant expansion of FORT's capabilities in the rapidly growing physical AI and robotics market. The purchase price has not been publicly disclosed. Based on the profiles of the companies involved and industry reports, the deal appears to be a strategic technology acquisition rather than a large public-company transaction.

The strategic transaction adds remote human-in-the-loop supervision and onboard active safety technologies to FORT's existing machine control platform, enabling safer deployment of autonomous systems in real-world environments. This latest deal also marks a major evolution for FORT, effectively expanding its technology stack beyond core machine-level control into cloud-based remote supervision and real-time active safety for autonomous systems.

By integrating Mapless AI's robust teleoperation software with FORT's established hardware-protected safety platform, the combined entity aims to deliver an unprecedented layer of reliability for industries deploying driverless systems. The acquisition addresses one of the most persistent bottlenecks in commercial autonomy: the absolute necessity for a continuous, secure, and low-latency human-in-the-loop fallback mechanism when machines encounter unpredictable environments.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, FORT Robotics develops safety-certified hardware and software designed to improve trust, security, and operational safety in autonomous machines. Its technology is used across sectors including warehousing, agriculture, transportation, and industrial automation.

Mapless AI was founded in 2020, and currently based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with additional operations in Boston. The US-based startup specializes in vehicle teleoperation, remote driving systems, and autonomy supervision technologies that allow operators to safely monitor and control vehicles from a distance. Its founders, Philipp Robbel and Jeffrey Kane Johnson, bring experience and tech expertise from big name organizations including Uber, Apple, Bosch, Aptiv, and nuTonomy.

As part of the transaction, the Mapless AI engineering team will integrate into FORT’s existing software division, focusing on the immediate rollout of unified APIs and hardware-software bundles. The combined platform is expected to support autonomous systems that not only operate safely but can also detect hazards, anticipate risks, and receive human intervention when required. Overall. the integration introduces "active safety" to remote supervision. Traditional teleoperation relies heavily on the operator's situational awareness, which can be limited by camera feeds and network latency.
