BMC Software Acquires Boundary, An App Monitoring Firm
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, BMC Software is an American company specializing in business service management (BSM) software. It develops, markets and sells software used for multiple functions, including IT service management, data center automation, performance management, virtualization lifecycle management and cloud management.
BMC software was founded by Scott Boulette, John Moores and Dan Cloer. The company has been credited of pioneering the Business Service Management concept as a way to help better align IT operations with business needs. In 2011, BMC software recorded an annual revenue of $2.1 billion, making the company the 20th largest software company in the world. In 2013, BMC Software was acquired by a group of private investors, which include Bain Capital, Golden Gate Capital, Insight Venture Partners, GIC Private Limited's GIC Special Investments Pte Ltd and Elliott Management Corporation.
Founded in 2011 and based in Mountain View, California, Boundary provides monitoring for cloud infrastructure as well as on-premises compute, storage, and network monitoring. Boundary also offers plugins for databases and other application components. Backers include Adams Street Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Scale Venture Partners, and Triangle Peak Partners. Boundary's customers include Adobe, Beats, Expedia and cloud service provider Rackspace.
