Serve Robotics Strengthens Industry Position with Integration of Vayu’s Advanced AI Models

In a strategic move to bolster its autonomous delivery capabilities, Serve Robotics has acquired Vayu Robotics, a move designed to accelerate its vision for autonomous last-mile delivery. By integrating Vayu’s expertise in AI foundation models and scalable simulation technology, Serve aims to further enhance the intelligence and efficiency of its sidewalk delivery robots.

Serve’s delivery robots are already operating in major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Miami Beach, Dallas, and Atlanta. With Vayu’s AI-driven platform and advanced simulation tools, Serve plans to improve navigation, streamline operations, and accelerate national deployment.

Vayu Robotics was founded in 2022 by machine learning and robotics experts Anand Gopalan, Mahesh Krishnamurthi, and Nitish Srivastava. The company is backed by Vinod Khosla of Khosla Ventures, who will join Serve Robotics as an advisor following the acquisition. The company is based in Palo Alto, California.

This latest deal follows Serve’s unique journey: originally part of Postmates’ robotics division, it spun out as an independent company after Uber acquired Postmates in 2021. Earlier this year, Serve went public on NASDAQ through a reverse merger, with Uber retaining a 14% stake.

Under the terms of the transaction, Vayu stockholders will receive 1,696,069 Serve common shares upfront, with the potential to earn an additional 560,000 shares tied to future autonomy performance milestones. In addition, Khosla Ventures, a Vayu investor, has been issued warrants to purchase 4,000,000 Serve shares at an exercise price of $10.36 per share, according to AI Business.
