Venture capital this week flowed toward three distinct but related bets: securing enterprise AI, powering it, and using it to invent physical materials — a pattern that suggests investors increasingly favor companies enabling AI deployment over foundational model developers alone.

Startup Funding Watch cover: AI security, infrastructure and deep tech draw mega-rounds — The CODEW, July 24, 2026.

Neo emerges from stealth with $100M. Boston-based Neo came out of stealth with $100 million in seed and Series A funding, backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Craft Ventures and Merlin Ventures. Founded by former SentinelOne executives Nick Warner and Shlomi Salem alongside EasySend co-founder Eran Shirazi, the company is building a real-time control layer to help security teams govern AI agents, AI-enabled applications and other increasingly autonomous software. The round is the latest sign that investors see AI governance and security hardening into a foundational enterprise software category in its own right.
Fluidstack raises $830M Series A. GPU infrastructure provider Fluidstack closed one of the year's largest infrastructure rounds, raising $830 million at a $7.5 billion valuation. The round was led by Situational Awareness, the AI-focused fund founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner. Fluidstack builds and operates large-scale GPU clusters for AI labs, handling everything from securing power to constructing and running data centers — underscoring that compute providers remain among the biggest financial beneficiaries of the enterprise AI buildout.
Sila raises $300M. Battery materials maker Sila secured $300 million in a private equity round led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures, with existing backers including Bessemer Venture Partners and T. Rowe Price also participating. The funding will expand Sila's silicon-carbon anode manufacturing plant in Moses Lake, Washington. The round shows that deep-tech and hard-tech investment continues alongside the AI boom, even as software captures most headlines.
CuspAI raises $450M Series B. Cambridge, UK-based CuspAI raised $450 million at a $2.6 billion valuation, backed by Jeff Bezos's Bezos Expeditions and the UK government's Sovereign AI Venture Fund, alongside lead investors Kleiner Perkins and NEA. The company uses AI to discover novel materials for semiconductors, batteries and carbon capture, and simultaneously launched an "AI Materials Foundry" coalition with more than 45 partners including Nvidia and Meta. The round reinforces a broader editorial theme: AI is becoming a core platform for scientific discovery, not just software development.
Elsewhere: Meta is reportedly recruiting a senior Amazon Web Services executive as it accelerates AI infrastructure spending and explores a move into cloud computing — a sign of growing convergence between hyperscale AI infrastructure and traditional cloud services. Separately, STMicroelectronics said it expects AI-related revenue to top $1 billion in 2026 and exceed $2 billion in 2027, even after issuing softer-than-expected quarterly guidance, another indication that AI demand is reshaping semiconductor company roadmaps.
Taken together, the week's activity points to capital consolidating around three themes — AI infrastructure, enterprise AI security and AI-driven scientific discovery — even as strategic acquisitions continue to reshape adjacent sectors.
