Bending Spoons Buys Vimeo for $1.38 Billion, Plans Operational Restructuring and Extends Global Reach
In a landmark transaction that underscores the shifting dynamics of the global tech landscape, European software giant Bending Spoons has acquired Vimeo for a whopping $1.38 billion. This latest all-cash deal is set to take the publicly traded video platform private, offering shareholders $7.85 per share — a 91% premium over its recent average trading price.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025. After completion, according to TechCrunch, Vimeo will go private and be delisted from public exchanges.
Vimeo, founded in 2004, began as a pioneering video hosting service and quickly became a favorite among independent creators. Over time, the platform shifted its focus from community-driven content to enterprise video solutions, AI-powered tools, and creator monetization. Despite these efforts — and recent restructuring under CEO Philip Moyer — Vimeo has struggled to maintain market share against industry giants like YouTube. By going private under Bending Spoons’ umbrella, Vimeo gains much-needed breathing room. Free from the short-term pressures of quarterly earnings, it can now prioritize long-term investments in enterprise video, livestreaming, and AI-driven editing technologies.
Bending Spoons, founded in 2013 and headquartered in Milan, has built its reputation as a global acquisition powerhouse. Its portfolio spans productivity, media, and creative industries, with well-known brands like Evernote, WeTransfer, StreamYard, Issuu, and Meetup. Acquiring Vimeo adds a critical video infrastructure layer, reinforcing the company’s ambition to expand its influence on the global stage.
In essence, this latest deal represents more than a simple tech deal. It reflects a powerful industry shift:
- European tech consolidation — demonstrating Europe’s growing role as a global acquirer of major digital platforms.
- AI and video convergence — as both companies deepen their investment in AI-driven innovation. Vimeo has already introduced tools for automated captioning, editing, and video production, while Bending Spoons has become known for enhancing its acquisitions with AI.
