IT Jobs & Talent Watch Nov 6: CEO Changes, AI Hires & Layoffs

Leadership & Workforce

The technology industry is reshaping leadership and headcount around AI, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and enterprise transformation — recruiting specialists in some functions while restructuring others. This edition prioritizes people: appointments, departures, layoffs and verified hiring, not conference calendars.

1. Technology Leadership & Executive Appointments

Lead · Philippines

Equinix Appoints Ireen Go-Catane as Philippines Managing Director

Company: Equinix · Announced: November 6, 2026 · Effective: November 9, 2026 · Previous role: Country President, Schneider Electric Philippines.

Go-Catane will oversee Equinix’s Philippine business, market growth and customer digital transformation. Equinix cites more than 30 years of ICT experience spanning NTT Philippines, Microsoft, Voyager Innovations, Samsung, IBM, Dell and Hewlett-Packard, and states it operates three data centers in Manila with more than 1,000 cabinets of capacity.

Why it matters: Local leadership depth for an interconnection and colocation platform as Philippine demand for cloud, network and AI-adjacent infrastructure grows.

HP Names Emma Walmsley as Next CEO

Company: HP Inc. · Announced: November 4, 2026 · Effective: January 4, 2027 · Incoming CEO: Emma Walmsley (former GSK CEO, 2017–2025; Microsoft board) · Interim CEO Bruce Broussard becomes board chair · Outgoing chair: Chip Bergh.

Why it matters: A large hardware company is installing an executive with large-scale corporate leadership experience as PC market pressure, memory costs and AI-PC narratives reshape the category.

Eptura Names Nuala Larkin First Chief AI Officer

Company: Eptura · Previous role: SVP Global Customer Support, CX Operations and Hardware · Mandate: companywide AI strategy and integration across workplace and facilities software. Eptura says its platform serves more than 11,000 organizations in 115 countries.

Why it matters: Enterprise software vendors are formalizing CAIO roles to move AI from pilots into product and operations ownership.

Spectro Cloud Hires Former Snowflake CRO Mike Gannon

New role: Chief Revenue Officer · Also: Peter Finter joining as Chief Marketing Officer. Spectro Cloud is positioning software for managing AI workloads across cloud, on-premises, and distributed environments; the company has stated that AI represents more than half its business and that it is targeting $100 million ARR this year.

Why it matters: AI infrastructure software companies are importing enterprise SaaS go-to-market leadership to scale beyond early adopters.

2. AI Leadership & Talent Competition

OpenAI Hires Former US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll

Role: Senior Counsellor for National Security Modernisation · Background: US Secretary of the Army (tenure ended September 2026); also served as Acting Director of ATF. OpenAI says the role focuses on government partnerships, national security modernization, cyber defense, and responsible AI adoption with government, industry, academia, and allied institutions. The appointment is a corporate role; it does not imply retained government authority.

OpenAI Recruits Former Claude Code Product Head Catherine Wu

From: Head of Product, Claude Code (Anthropic) · To: Product Lead for Core Products at OpenAI (ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, Codex, API, Enterprise and related products). Move announced November 5 following her departure from Anthropic.

Why it matters: Direct competition for product leaders who have commercialized AI coding agents and developer platforms.

Google DeepMind Brings Back Barret Zoph as VP of Research

Focus: reinforcement learning and post-training research · Prior roles: OpenAI VP and GM of B2B; co-founder/CTO of Thinking Machines Lab; earlier Google Brain research scientist. A senior research talent move across frontier AI organizations.

3. Technology Workforce & Restructuring

Block Begins Another Round of Workforce Cuts

Block has begun a further 2026 reduction affecting parts of Cash App and Square, with teams identified including Customer Operations, Risk Operations, and Learning & Content Operations. The company has not disclosed headcount for this round. Context: follows a larger reduction earlier in 2026 and public emphasis on operating efficiency and tooling for routine work.

Startup restructuring (tracker-sourced — verify before treating as definitive)

Bria: reported ~20 roles cut (~one-third of workforce), November 5 · Heidi Health: reported 108 jobs (~18%), November 4, following co-founder departures · Explorium: reported shutdown November 4 after raising more than $127 million. Figures from technology layoff trackers; confirm company statements and employment impact before treating as final.

4. IT Jobs & Recruitment

Cloudflare — Engineering, AI infrastructure, cybersecurity

Careers-page snapshot (~November 6): on the order of 462 open roles, including Senior Software Engineer — Kubernetes Platform (US, Toronto); AI & Infrastructure Planning and Zero Trust Connectivity (US, Lisbon, London); recruiting and people-operations roles in Singapore; sales roles in Bengaluru. Counts change daily.

EROAD — Senior Software Engineer, Manila

Deadline listed: November 30, 2026 · Skills: Java, microservices, event-driven systems, AI coding agents, testing, CI/CD, observability. Signal: backend depth plus AI-assisted development practice.

Ugnay Solutions — SAP Open House, BGC (Nov 6–7)

Recruiter event for junior-to-lead SAP skills (ABAP, FI/CO, SD/MM, MDG/MDM, Fiori, authorization, Source to Pay). Organizer materials describe a one-day process with same-day offers for selected candidates. End-client not publicly named — do not attribute openings to SAP as employer of record.

5. Talent Market Takeaway

Three patterns stand out. Country and commercial leadership is being upgraded where infrastructure and enterprise demand is rising (Equinix Philippines; Spectro Cloud CRO/CMO). Frontier AI talent is mobile across research, product and government-adjacent roles (DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic alumni). Operating discipline continues in parallel: fintech and generative-AI startups are still cutting or closing even as hyperscalers and platform companies hire for Kubernetes, Zero Trust and AI infrastructure.

For the Philippines, the Equinix MD appointment and Manila engineering/SAP recruitment form a local bridge between global infrastructure strategy and on-the-ground skills demand.
